One Rose Melberg band covers another (the one which happens to be my favorite of all time) at the Slumberland 20th Anniversary show at the Echo on Sunday. Kids, dreams do come true! Apologies as usual for the camera phone video.
From the band of Los Angeles cosmic Americans’ August 22, 2008 reunion show at the Echoplex. Princes of California country, every one of these gentleman.

The Vimeo migration continues. Here’s Grizzly Bear at UCLA’s Kerckhoff Grand Salon three years ago (time flies!) on February 2, 2007. There’s a photo somewhere of me and Ed Droste palling around after this gig, which was totally worth skipping that Romantic Lit class I ended up dropping for.

Here are my freshly Vimeo’d videos from the show (including his Tom Waits-plays-”Creep” cover), posted with the hope that someone will send this to Jon and remind him to put out another album, please. After the jump… Read the rest of this entry »
Premiere! I finally joined the rest of the cool kids on Vimeo (verdict: rad) and now that we’re in hi-def visually, if not sonically, here’s a gem of a jam: a new live track from Ravens & Chimes. Frontman Asher Lack tells me this song, “Clarissa Explains It All” — yes, after your favorite ’90s Nickelodeon show — is going to be a bit faster when it arrives as the b-side of this fall’s “Hearts of Palm” single, but it’s pretty high energy here. The Rawkblog Band to Watch has half of their sophomore disc tracked and hopes to tour before knocking out the rest, so we’re looking toward 2010 at this point. No rush, fellas.
