Video: Grizzly Bear’s “Two Weeks” Super Bowl Ad

I am so goddamn proud. Plus, Tracy Morgan! And Stevie Wonder! I hope the Grizz can afford a pool for Yellow House now. Dudes deserve it.

Due to a fuck-up in the chain of publicity/venue command, I wound up without a photo pass to Grizzly Bear’s triumphant performance at the Hollywood Palladium on Tuesday night, a hometown show for singer/guitarist Daniel Rossen and the biggest solo headlining space they’d ever played. A shame. (And a continually troublesome failing in the concert industry at large’s dealings with journalists, but I digress.) Not a shame, at all, in fact, was the band’s show, which was large and cathartic enough to fill a room that could’ve swallowed them up. Read the rest of this entry »

Tonight In L.A.: Grizzly Bear Roar At The Palladium

Tonight’s Grizzly Bear show will be my fourth time seeing the band at their own headlining gig — sixth overall if you count their brief performance at the 2007 New York Revenge of the Bookeaters show and running into co-frontman @edwarddroste in Central Park after they’d opened for the Decemberists that summer. Notably, though, it’s the first chance I’ll have to hear the band burn through their tremendous Veckatimest material. I expect glory — and to see yr smiling faces there. P.S., folks, epic dude Kurt Vile headlines Spaceland on Friday, file that one under can’t miss, too.

More tour dates, as always, in the ongoing calendar.

Grizzly Bear
’s Wiltern gig is apparently sold out, but they’ve added a night at the Troubadour on Saturday, June 20. Having seen the band there back in the day, I’d advise you to get ‘em while they’re hot. (Also just announced – Scotpop underdogs The Trash Can Sinatras on July 29! Yes!)

Video: Grizzly Bear – “Two Weeks”

The lead-up to Grizzly Bear’s May 26 release date for Veckatimest continues with “Two Weeks,” a video worth watching for Dan Rossen’s facial expression at the 1:15 mark, not to mention the David Lynch-y ending. Also, bowties! (It bears mentioning that the Yogi/Boo Boo-themed band shows up in a photo collage in the new issue of GQ deriding hipsters’ wholesale embrace of preppy culture; this video is not going to help. For the record, I’m typing this in boat shoes and a cardigan.) Another recent video, the band’s Black Cab session, is here.

Grizzly Bear Not Playing Letterman Tonight

Grizzly Bear won’t be on The Late Show thanks to time constraints, Ed Droste tweets. The band was going to play Veckatimest life-alterer “Ready, Able” with a string quarter. Aghh! More: Grizzly Bear
