I like a lot of electronic music (way more now than a couple years back) but don't really care about dancing 99% of the time, so there you go

I think I forgot, you don't really care for electronic music anyway right? So that would rule out a pretty huge chunk of remixes all on it's own. I guess one of my favorite things about remixes is their ability to make a song I like that might not be all that danceable become danceable. I'm sort of a dancing fool.

You're right about the amount of exciting music coming out as well. I actually am trying to go a month without buying or downloading any new music. I'm overwhelmed. And it's an experiment to see if I'll get back into my old listening habits where I was much more attached to whole albums rather than single songs and personalized playlists on my ipod.

One of my favorite samples is Beck sampling Them-It's All Over Baby Blue on Jackass from Odelay. How bout you?

At this point, 99% of remixes are just Hype Machine advertisements for the remixers, but that notwithstanding, there are so many bands and artists going to the trouble of making exciting original material that I don't have the time or the energy to waste on some hack adding drum loops to someone else's song.

Samples, especially in the context of hip-hop, are a different story.

I'm curious, why do you try to avoid remixes? I think that it is a great statement about the infinite possibilities of music when one artist can take another artist's material and make it into something totally different and new. That being said, there are some really bad remixes. But what is bad in my opinion may not be so bad to somebody else.

I try to avoid remixes on the whole, but I'll track that one down.

Thank you sir. I agree with you somewhat about time not being too kind to his solo album, but have you heard the remixes? I enjoy the remix album more than the original now. My personal favorite is The Bug remix of Harrowdown Hill.
