MBV’s Matt LeMay has a sincere take on the disintegrating state of indie music fandom and our responses to the enervating cycle of hype/backlash/mainstream success. And kinda hates on Wavves. Essential reading.

oh! I don’t think he was hating on Wavves at all. At least, I didn’t read it that way. He seemed to genuinely find the whole experience disheartening (which I did as well) and point out that the audience/general public, particularly music bloggers, need to realize that they play a role in creating these genres and contributing to how music changes and how artists conceptualize their “success” so to speak. If anything, I thought he was giving a little nod to Nathan Williams and acknowledging that he got a raw deal.

Oh, was exaggerating a bit. Nathan totally got a raw deal (as discussed here: http://www.rawkblog.net/2009/12/2009-rawky-awards-winners-losers/) but that doesn’t change the fact that he, y’know, sucks. You can put blog hype on a pig…
