2010 Bands You Can Ignore: Surfer Blood

Surfer Blood - Astro CoastYou take your car to work, I’ll take my bored. (Actually, these guys have some pretty unignorable moments — “Floating Vibes,” for one — but if anyone wants to champion this band, there’s some serious Rock and Roll you need to hear first.)

Editor’s note: 2010 Bands You Can Ignore: Bands you can ignore this year. And probably next year.

  • zack

Ha. These guys sound like a Weezer/Pavement cover band.

  • Kay Randolph

You whiffed on this one, dude. Go back to immersing yourself in the non-melodies of Animalgrizzlycollectiblebear.

  • David Greenwald

I think you’re on the wrong blog, Kay Randolph.

  • Kay Randolph

Faithful reader and admirer. Like your perspective.

  • David Greenwald

Guess that means I need to start blogging about indie pop on the regular again. But thanks for reading.

  • Kay Randolph

Although “Pasadena” was the better Ozma album.

  • David Greenwald

I’m actually more of a Promise Ring guy, frankly.

  • Kay Randolph

    Very Emergency, I trust.

  • Tim

Nothing bad about this album. Although everyone will have forgotten about it in 3 months.

  • David Greenwald

Very Emergency but I really love Wood/Water, too. And the second Maritime album is everything these guys aren’t.

    HAHA
I can’t stand them either! finally, another voice of reason. I see them everywhere. I agree, they will be forgotten in 3 months

I actually really like this record…and I’m the most cynical prick around.

+1 for Maritime – We, The Vehicles. For the past five years most everything in this vein has been a forgettable retread, but I constantly go back to that Maritime record.

  • David Greenwald

Yeah, I’d love to hear anything from the last few years that compares to that album within the genre if people have recs.

  • Gabe

Nah, it’s a good album. Ozma and the promise ring? Come on mang.

  • David Greenwald

What makes those bands less deserving of consideration than Surfer Blood, Gabe? Because it’s not the music.

  • Gabe

Don’t get me wrong, but just as Surfer Blood is on your ignore list, Ozma and Promise Ring are on mine. And it is the music. For the record, we like alot of the same music, but man, I just gotta disagree with you on those two bands. Love your blog.
    Gabe

  • David Greenwald

    Fair enough.

  • Joe

You’re usually on the money with this sort of thing but I can’t agree on this one. Great new band and album

  • http://naternet.com Nate

I agree with Tim, it’s an okay record. I bought it, but I agree that I will have forgotten about it completely in three months. By May, I’ll be wondering why the hell I haven’t taken it off my iPhone because it will be totally annoying. I caught their in-studio at KEXP right after I downloaded the album and the lukewarm performance, even in such a controlled space made me swear never to see them live.

I don’t understand the need for these negative dismissive posts. Especially when they’re written about talented, nice hard working bands. Are you that desperate for comments?

Nice blog, but I do not think that there is a need of this negative sense.
    Thanks for sharing this.
