I knew paramore before they showed off in twilight. They are kinda a talented kid. I know that they still too young. But, they have spirit and, hayley is amazing girl. I donk know about the kind of music or something. But, they built their career from above before they nothing and they made a new breakthrough.

1) Is there? Within their genre, there isn't. If you're going to compare it to totally different music (say, Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, whatever), it's apples and oranges, but I think it's one of the best albums of the year, period.

2) The only thing I care about is the music. Everything else -- image, marketing, residence -- is irrelevant.

3) I don't care about backlash or backlash-backlash. I care about people paying attention to good bands. I'm too old to play those games.

It may be true that they're relatively better than most pop on the radio, but that doesn't mean there isn't way better stuff out there. And god knows they're the ones who could use a bigger audience. Also, just as an honest question, do you think that being turned off by a band's image is a legitimate reason to not listen to them?

Its cool that you're trying to break through the indie snobbery and get people to realize that big-name acts can have talent, but it also seems like you're banking on some backlash-against-the-backlash points here. You've been on a lot of these teams lately.

Adam, I agree with you and note that concern in the review - the power chords, the guitar tones, etc. have the nasty stench of "awful mainstream rock" all over them - but less so than the last record. Rob Cavallo did a really great job on this one - it's nowhere near as compressed to hell as I was expecting, either.

But yeah, they're just writing better, more dynamic songs than the vast majority of pop acts and indie bands alike. Team Hayley!

I'm with you, Dave, but to be fair, I don't think our generation is disregarding Paramore because they're popular. I think it's more the high-gloss production and the fact that they are packaged and marketed TO BE popular.

It's the same reason most people are too blind to recognize that Taylor Swift really is a goddamn gem of a talent. Even if the "sound" of their music is researched to a tee, both Paramore and Swift write perfect pop songs, better than most of our real pop icons. I mean, "You Belong With Me" is just plain and simple a better song than "Single Ladies."

Keep pushing these kids. They deserve a bigger audience because 1) Haley's voice is amazing, and 2) They write better tunes than most of the indie-shit we typically listen to.

it’s an almost inborn inclination among the indie set to recoil from anything that’s too popular. This is fucking stupid. Did you stop eating ice cream cones because you discovered tiramisu?

Awesome.

I'll definitely give it a listen when it comes out.
