Bootleg: Beck and the Flaming Lips @ KCRW, 12.24.02

[Ed. note: Another bootleg from the archives. The migration from blogspot continues. Enjoy!] In 2002, along with the release of the milder, morose Sea Change, Beck asked the Flaming Lips to be his backing band. This was probably the best idea ever. Their performances on KCRW at the end of the year seem to support that — everyone’s in fine form here, doing pretty, laid-back versions of songs from Sea Change and beyond. (Note: I’ve neglected to include the interviews, so track numbers are off accordingly.)

This is aweseome. Thanks. I had this ages ago, but lent it to someone and never saw it again. I always wished it didn't have the interview segments. They are quite funny though, cos Wayne completely dominates.

Wayne has dogged on Beck pretty badly too. Not sure who started it. Wayne basically described Beck as a primadonna and a fake.

hmmm, based on the austin city limits gig, i got the idea that this collaboration was relative lackluster. and in the interviews after, beck seemed annoyed with Wayne's antics. Their shows are so different, seems like a weird mix. They are both great entertainers, but beck's art is so polished, smooth, and effortless. Wayne on the other hand is wacky, experimental, and way the f*ck over-the-top.
Hadn't heard the kcrw version before - cool stuff - thanks!
