Wavves Shitt The Bedd

I know this breaks my P4k/snark/Wavves embargo, but:

“Still unsatisfied more than 15 minutes into their scheduled 2:20 a.m. set time, [Wavves frontman] Nathan [Williams] finally succumbed to shouts from the restless crowd and began lifelessly strumming his guitar in what appeared to be totally random chord progressions.” — P4k boss Ryan Schreiber has obviously never been to a Wavves show before, and:

“But their performance last night on the Pitchfork stage at Barcelona, Spain’s Primavera Sound Festival was nothing short of spectacular… From the moment they took the stage, the duo was clearly not in any kind of mood to be playing to a potentially adoring crowd at one of the raddest independent music festivals in the world.” — AKA, “Totally not a conflict of interest, y’all! Btdubs, I’m chilling in Spain!”

Sigh. Previously: Live: Wavves at the El Rey, 1.24.09

    a) having a pitchfork embargo is protesting hipster snobs by upping the ante and being a bigger snob. come on.

    b) it’s not a conflict of interest, it’s reporting. he’s probably been to plenty of music festivals and is qualified enough to make that call. and if he went all the way to spain to go to the festival, it would be pretty sad if he didn’t post his opinion of it. also, i’ve been to primavera sound and it IS totally rad.

    a) No, it’s not making a publication with too much power already the center of the conversation. Let’s have our own opinions.

    b) If you put your company’s name on a festival and presumably have a financial stake in it, writing about it is a conflict, bro. That’s the definition of “conflict of interest.” Given that the online exclusives arms race and the recession has pushed most publications into this territory these days, though, it’s not some horrible sin – just funny, and a little sad.
