New Music: Elliott Smith – ‘I’ll Be Back’ (Beatles Cover)
File under: Too Good To Be True. An entire album’s worth of Elliott Smith unfinished recordings and outtakes from From A Basement On The Hill has leaked. I’ll be talking more in depth about it (and the glut of recent Elliott leaks, which are all totally awesome) once I’ve had the chance to absorb them, but given my love of Elliott’s covers, it’s amazing to find another one in this tracklist — a version of the Beatles’ “I’ll Be Back.” [Correction: The track was mislabeled and is not "If I Fell"] Elliott’s version is faithful but ragged and noisy as most of the Basement leaks have been, a quality I wish had been more evident on the final version of the album. It’s among his best covers; considering we ought to be scraping the bottom of the barrel of Elliott’s posthumous material here, I can only marvel at the man’s sheer talent and hope that someday other musicians will aspire to be this great.

I love you.
The Beatle’s song link isn’t working
i miss him dearly.
But the rest of the post is cool
Link works fine for me. Did you try right-click, save-as?
Yeah. I got some strange code readout in Safari. I just got it to work in Firefox. Thanks for the reply.
i found these on sweet addy too. great, great stuff! the only downer was that the poster said “elliott told me to find these leaks on soulseak, he also talks to me in my dreams”
i love elliott, and was lucky enough to see him during his last few shows, but some of these kids crack me up.
I miss him
i got the beatles one to open, but the big zip file is actually a very small zip file that stuffed my computer up until i shut it down.
i also couldn’t find any reference to new material at sweet adeline – which you think they’d be all over.
does anyone have any more info or links??
thanks!
ok, scratch that. if you’re a mac user on firefox, make sure it doesn’t want to save it as a PC Zip file (save as “all files”). downloading now!
This is easily the best news I’ve heard all day.

LULZ at LaLover.
I am the person that leaked the songs. I didn’t find them on soulseek, but I didn’t want people to straight up say “OMG MIESTER, Can you get more?!?!” I never would of heard the end of it ever. I can get more, but I really do not want to try my luck with the person I got it from, and I really do not want to put this guy at risk. He was a close friend who helped Elliott record FABOTH, and no it isn’t David McConnell. I’ll just leave it at that. Do you really really really think anyone would be dumb enough to leave unreleased Elliott Smith songs that no one else has ever heard in a shared folder on soulseek? Especially considering they could be sued for doing so if they happened to be connected to a record company/studio/analog-digital converter company. Really now…. use your head.
You people who say “Oh the ‘kid’ is a kook” are really naive. Don’t bite the hand that feeds you, seriously.
i can’t get these to play – are there any other versions floating around out there?
