Animal Collective To Leak On January 6

Assuming a good copy doesn’t make the rounds by then, that’s the day when Animal Collective will debut the vinyl edition of Merriweather Post Pavillion, two weeks before the CD release — along with download cards for MP3s or (gasp!) CD-quality WAV files. Presumably the Internet will figure out where to go from there.

I really can’t wait. It’s going to be really truly amazing. Everyone is saying that it can’t live up to Strawberry Jam, but no one is in the mindset that Strawberry Jam was a breakthrough for them and it was just the beginning.

    I guess we’ll see.

Everyone I’ve talked to seems more excited for this one than SB, which seemed (wrongly) less well-received than Feels.

I haven’t heard any of it, waiting for the whole thing.

  • Christopher S. Gregg*

Yeah I like Feels and all but SJ is definitely one of my favorite albums and by far my favorite by Animal Collective. I just never get tired of it. I haven’t listened to any of it either. These things just have to be listened to as a whole. Some people just don’t understand that.

I usually can’t resist when things start leaking but luckily I don’t care about Animal Collective just enough to wait.

I’m sure it’ll be worth it. It had better be. This has been hyped up so incredibly much.

I had a spot penciled in in my top 5 for Ryan at the beginning of the year…

  • Christopher S. Gregg*

Haha. Well of course you would. Even if he swore to the universe that he was not going to release an album for the whole year, you would still hold a place for him just in case. Haha.

Not necessarily a bad thing though. Heartbreaker is one of the first good albums I ever heard in my life.

Ah, a fellow MOG Music Network blog member, I see? :) This Animal Collective album has been such a huge deal all over the web…then of course there was a fake ‘leak’ of a zip uploaded some days ago with all the tracks being Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up”, XD. To be honest, I still haven’t heard anything by this band; I’m not sure if I should listen to Strawberry Jam now or wait to hear this band in what could be their magnum opus…
