Best of 2007: Reader Poll – Best Rawkblog Discovery?

Disclaimer: I am aware you did not discover the National from this blog

2007 is drawing to a close and the lists keep pouring in – I’m looking forward to giving some serious spins to Gorilla Vs. Bear and Skatterbrain‘s year-end picks. Our coverage is coming next week, when I’m done with finals and have some serious time to invest in writing up my albums list (it’ll be a top 30), song list (probably a top 50) and a number of other ideas in the works. In the meantime, I’ll be posting holiday songs and trying to squeeze in a few more album posts, but as loyal readers, you guys should have a pretty good idea of what I liked this year.

Now, I want to know what you like. What was your favorite song or album that you discovered (or at least heard) here on The Rawking Refuses To Stop! this year? Did we turn you on to a new folk ballad or dance jam? I sure hope so.

Here’s a band I discovered thanks to Skatterbrain, who routinely introduces me (and the entire blogosphere, no doubt) to amazing stuff.

my pick would probably have to be Victor Bermon. it’s refreshing, different, and perfect for when you just wake up. I heard about him all over the place after you put it out there, but he was probably my favorite new discovery of 2007

in terms of number of spins, i’d have to say that your coachella daft punk offering has been my best score from your blog. (and i just listened to their new ‘alive’ disc and it’s almost indistinguishable from your post, except yours starts with the sweet ‘close encounters’ theme)
    thanks for all the goodies!

I’ll listen to a song you post and think “wow” and then be let down by the album (ie Lewis & Clarke) but I still wouldn’t have found that one song without you.

I’m actually working on my lists right now: http://whenisaid.blogspot.com/

Keep up the good work. This place is too good to be considered a blog.

I was a little let down by that one too. His debut is a classic.

  • Andrew

I hadn’t discovered Akron/Family until this year. I’m more of a folkie and was drawn to them by “I’ll be on the Water” immediately. I even went to see them at the Troubadour in October.

As for Lewis & Clarke, “Comfort Inn” was just about the only saving grace for Holy Birth in my opinion. However, he could have only made “Bloody Coat” and I’d still pay to go see him play.

  • Andrew

By the way, did anyone else see the Califone/Iron & Wine show? I’m not crazy about Shepard’s Dog except for “Carousel”, but it was damn good.

  • Dave Rawkblog

Wish I’d been there – I saw Califone earlier this year and it was an unbelievable show.

the best band i found on this blog this year was shh… this is a library. i still listen to that album a LOT.

  • Jon

I’m going to put my top ten up soon, but my top albums this year were:
Blitzen Trapper – Wild Mountain Nation (which never fails to make me smile) and Jane Bartholomew – Morning Songs (which never fails to move me). Check ‘em out!
